The Standard Brick Rules of Thumb

In the United States, a standard Modular Brick measures **2-1/4" x 3-5/8" x 7-5/8"**. When laid with a standard **3/8-inch mortar joint**, you need approximately **6.85 bricks per square foot** of wall surface area. This guide explains how to calculate materials for brick masonry walls.

Calculating Brick Count

  1. Find Gross Wall Area: Multiply Wall Length by Wall Height.
  2. Deduct Openings: Calculate the area of doors and windows, and subtract them from the gross area.
  3. Multiply by Brick Factor: Multiply net area by 6.85.
  4. Add Waste Factor: Add 5% to 10% for cuts and breakage.
