Content Review Process
How we maintain the freshness, integrity, and safety of our calculators and technical guides
At Free Construction Calculator, we believe estimating content must not become stale. A building code update or a change in material standards can alter mathematical outputs. Therefore, we utilize a robust content review loop, ensuring every page and tool is backed by active engineering expertise.
1. The Review Team
Our review board consists of licensed construction managers, structural engineers, and estimating professionals. A page is only approved when it has been vetted by an expert in that specific construction domain:
- Concrete & Masonry: Reviewed by Civil Engineers (such as Er. Anish Sigdel) to verify load math, volumetric shrinkage adjustments, and rebar structures.
- Staircase & Framing Layouts: Evaluated by Structural Specialists to check compliance with the International Residential Code (IRC) safety boundaries.
- Finishes & Quantities: Audited by active residential and commercial contractors to verify material waste allowances and field coverage rates.
2. The Three Phases of Review
All guides and calculators must pass through these three phases before publication:
- Initial Technical Vetting: The writer or tool creator submits formulas and reference code chapters. The reviewer verifies that the calculations are accurate and match industry standard guidelines.
- UX & Edge-Case Testing: We run the calculations through a series of stressful edge-case coordinates (e.g. extremely steep pitches, deep concrete slabs, small-format tiles). We check that boundary conditions are handled properly, preventing nonsensical calculations.
- Sign-off & Trust Stamp: Once approved, the content is marked with a "Reviewed by [Expert Name]" badge, link to their profile, and the date of the last technical review.
3. Periodic Auditing
Calculators and database pages do not sit idle. We schedule systematic reviews:
- Annual Audits: Standard density constants and structural formulas are audited yearly.
- Regulatory Audits: When the International Code Council (ICC) releases updates to building codes, we audit affected tools (like the staircase and concrete footing calculators) within 60 days of the publication.
- Market Rate Updates: Material databases are updated dynamically or checked quarterly to reflect average market weight indexes.
