How is this calculated?
Gravel, Soil & Excavation Math:
Gravel base volume is calculated from area and depth. Because aggregates compact under weight, we multiply the base volume by a **Compaction Factor** (typically 10-20%) to find the necessary loose supply volume.
Wet Volume = Area Length × Area Width × Fill Depth Total Volume = Wet Volume × (1 + Compaction Factor / 100) Total Weight = Total Volume × Loose Density (approx. 1.5 - 1.7 tonnes/m³)

Important Construction Factors in Ohio
1. Material Sourcing & Delivery
Major concrete ready-mix plants, lumber yards, and aggregate distribution depots are centered around Columbus and other primary cities in Ohio. Deliveries beyond a 20-30 mile radius from these urban centers will incur additional delivery fees and fuel surcharges.
2. Permits & Building Codes
Local municipal codes in Ohio dictate minimum requirements for soil compaction, structural rebar, insulation R-values, and storm runoff drainage. Always check with your local municipal building department before purchasing materials or beginning excavation.

Related FAQs
How many tons is a cubic yard of gravel?
One cubic yard of clean gravel or crushed stone weighs approximately 2,800 to 3,000 lbs, which is about 1.4 to 1.5 short tons, depending on moisture content and compaction.
How deep should a gravel driveway base be?
A standard gravel driveway requires a total depth of 6 to 8 inches, poured in 2 to 3 layers of varying stone sizes, each compacted thoroughly with a plate compactor.
