How is this calculated?
Brick Wall & Mortar Math:
Net wall volume is calculated by subtracting windows and doors deductions. Standard bricks are added with their respective mortar joint thicknesses to estimate brick volume and count.
Brick with Mortar Vol = (Brick L + Joint) × (Brick W + Joint) × (Brick H + Joint) Brick Count = Net Wall Volume / Brick with Mortar Vol (includes 5% waste) Actual Brick Volume = Brick Count × Single Brick Volume (without mortar) Mortar Wet Volume = Net Wall Volume - Actual Brick Volume Mortar Dry Volume = Mortar Wet Volume × 1.33 (for dry bulk shrinkage) Cement & Sand are divided based on mix ratio (e.g. 1:6)

Important Construction Factors in Pennsylvania
1. Material Sourcing & Delivery
Major concrete ready-mix plants, lumber yards, and aggregate distribution depots are centered around Harrisburg and other primary cities in Pennsylvania. Deliveries beyond a 20-30 mile radius from these urban centers will incur additional delivery fees and fuel surcharges.
2. Permits & Building Codes
Local municipal codes in Pennsylvania dictate minimum requirements for soil compaction, structural rebar, insulation R-values, and storm runoff drainage. Always check with your local municipal building department before purchasing materials or beginning excavation.

How many bricks are in a square foot of wall?
For a standard single-wythe wall using standard US modular bricks, you need approximately 6.85 bricks per square foot. This includes a standard 3/8-inch mortar joint.
How much mortar do I need for 1000 bricks?
Typically, 1,000 standard bricks require about 1,000 to 1,200 lbs of wet mortar mix, which equates to roughly 15 to 18 bags of masonry cement and 1.5 tons of sand.
