How is this calculated?

Plastering Volume Math:

Plaster thickness is multiplied by the plastering surface area to get the wet mortar volume. Mortar shrinks significantly when mixing, so a dry multiplier of 1.33 is applied, plus wastage.

Wet Mortar Volume = Surface Area × Plaster Thickness
Dry Mortar Volume = Wet Mortar Volume × 1.33
Cement Volume = Dry Mortar Volume × (1 / (1 + Sand Part))
Sand Volume = Dry Mortar Volume × (Sand Part / (1 + Sand Part))

Important Construction Factors in Ohio

1. Material Sourcing & Delivery

Major concrete ready-mix plants, lumber yards, and aggregate distribution depots are centered around Columbus and other primary cities in Ohio. Deliveries beyond a 20-30 mile radius from these urban centers will incur additional delivery fees and fuel surcharges.

2. Permits & Building Codes

Local municipal codes in Ohio dictate minimum requirements for soil compaction, structural rebar, insulation R-values, and storm runoff drainage. Always check with your local municipal building department before purchasing materials or beginning excavation.

What is the standard mix ratio for wall plastering?

For cement plastering on interior brick or concrete block walls, the standard mix ratio is 1:4 (1 part cement to 4 parts fine sand) or 1:6 for external rendering.

How thick should wall plaster be?

Plaster is usually applied in a thickness of 12mm to 15mm (about 1/2 inch). Ceilings are typically plastered slightly thinner, at about 10mm (3/8 inch).
